Pastoral Care Commission

Pastoral Care at the Cathedral occurs every time that we reach out in love to one another.  It is the ministry of all the laity and the clergy.  The Pastoral Care Commission helps us coordinate our endeavors.

Darian Gibson convenes this commission and is aided by the leaders of each group comprising the commission:

  • Lay Eucharistic Visitors              Cheryl Kirchner
  • Guild of the Christ Child              Michelle Lewis
  • St. Michael’s Guild                       Sarah Buffington &  Dawn Flannes
  • Befrienders                                   Ouida Drinkwater
  • Elders and Betters                       Eleanor and John Fontaine
  • Hospital Visitors                           Sis Holland
  • Prayer Chain                                 Betty Allin &  Dean Alexander
  • St. Clare’s Common Threads      Susan Nix
  • Clarence Tree                               Christine Barron
  • St. Elizabeth’s Guild                     Betsy Copeland
  • Vestry Liaisons                             Sarah Buffington & Ouida Drinkwater & Jay Fontaine
  • St. Elizabeth of Hungary Guild   Besty Copeland

As Canon Pastor, I assist the other clergy in planning and leading worship and in preaching, but the majority of my time and effort is devoted to visiting parishioners in hospitals, nursing facilities, and their homes.  Supporting parishioners and their families in times of sorrow and joy blesses me day in and day out, for it is in these encounters that God’s presence is palpable.  We do worship the living God.

In recent months, our Sudanese members have added a monthly communion service to their Saturday evening worship.  I am coordinating priest to meet this need.
